Surrogate Spotlight: Jackie

In this Surrogate Spotlight, we feature Jackie, who shares with us the story of her journeys with AFS!

1. Please summarize your surrogacy journey thus far.

I applied for surrogacy in December 2017 and it took a good 3 months for the screening and paperwork to be completed. I then had a match call with an Israeli couple who are so incredibly sweet and amazing. After we both agreed to match we then went through a few months of the legal process. Although the timeline may seem long, it sure does fly right by.

We found out I was carrying a baby boy for the daddies. And now here I am in June 2019, one week after delivery. The faces of pure joy right after delivery was worth every ounce of pain, discomfort and any other pregnancy related problem I encountered. Seeing that family look so complete and full made the whole process worth it!

2. Tell us a little about yourself and why you decided to become a surrogate.

When I initially wanted to become a surrogate I was 18 or 19 years old. I believe everything happens for a reason, it was fate.

3. What do you enjoy most about being a surrogate?

I enjoyed the conversations with the dads, and the excitement we all had while the baby was growing. And then the delivery and seeing them as a family was so amazing. That’s what I enjoyed most.

4. How has the decision to become a surrogate changed you?

Becoming a surrogate helped me realize just how precious life really is. I now look at my kids and realize how fast they are growing and how fast time goes by. I’m now hugging and kissing them more and more often and valuing this time with them more then I ever did before. I’ve also learned that patience is so important.

5. What is the communication and relationship like with your IPs?

At this time communication with my IPs is pretty good, one of them is still here with their little boy. I am hoping to stay in touch once they all return home.

6. What advice would you give to women considering surrogacy?

I would just say no matter what obstacles you face, if it’s meant to be, it will be. Be okay with obstacles that can come up, and be proud of yourself, even if things don’t seem to be happening the way you envisioned.
